The supplements market is booming. And I think I’ve contributed quite significantly to this! Recently, however, I decided to consolidate the supplements I take. It was getting out of hand and I was a little concerned about accidentally double dosing. But Absolute Collagen has survived the cull. And that’s despite its taste. I’ve been taking it for over a year now, so I’m pretty alive to the benefits it brings and how easy it is to add to your routine, having momentarily dabbled with another collagen supplement.
What is Collagen?
Collagen is a type of protein which, amongst others, provides support, strength and structure for your skin. It’s the most abundant protein in our bodies. As we age, our natural collagen production slows, but it drops most quickly due to sun exposure, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and a lack of sleep and exercise. [1] At first, collagen supplementation was primarily found in skincare, but its effectiveness as a topical application was questionable and so oral supplements are now the primary source of additional collagen. Due to its age defying properties which improve hair, skin and nails, the demand for collagen supplements has been exponential recently.
Absolute Collagen Supplements
What’s in them?
Absolute Collagen is the award winning and probably best-known producer of marine collagen supplements. It comes in those unmistakeable little yellow sachets, each containing 8000mg of marine collagen and 60mg of vitamin C. This is apparently the ideal daily dose of collagen, boosted by the addition of vitamin C, which in itself contributes to normal collagen formation and the normal function of the skin.
How They Work and How to Take Them
Absolute Collagen supplements work by the body absorbing and distributing it to the deep layers of the skin to help with our own natural collagen formation. The potential results of this are marketed as improved skin rejuvenation, glowing skin, thicker hair and stronger nails. All thanks to one little pouch of liquid collagen. I take mine in the morning, direct from the pouch, chased with something to disperse the taste. I should note that over the course of the last year, the taste has unquestionably improved thanks to a few tweaks in the formulation, but it’s not exactly a highlight in the day. Entirely bearable however. Should you have the time, you can always mix it in with food or drink, but I prefer the convenience of just taking it straight. This is also a million times easier than some competing brands that require you to dilute sachets of powdered, and truly disgusting tasting, collagen with liquid three times a day!
The Results
Absolute Collagen pretty much guarantee that within 12 weeks of taking their supplements, you will see improvements in fine lines, wrinkles and skin evenness. I definitely see improvements in all of these areas. A softening, more than an eradication. My skin is also a little firmer thanks to the supplements. With regards to my hair, I haven’t noticed a thickening, but environmental factors, such as stress, probably have to be taken into consideration and last year was a very stressful one! That said, the one massive difference Absolute Collagen has made to my hair, is its texture. Prior to taking it, I was a bit stressed out by the fact that my hair seemed to be getting increasingly courser. Almost wiry. And nobody wants that!! Absolute Collagen has transformed it into far silkier strands. Unquestionably smoother and probably slightly glossier. My nails are also undoubtedly growing at a rate of knots and are pretty strong too. Another win! Some friends report that Absolute Collagen has helped eradicate minor aches and pains that just come with age. But the hair, nails and skin improvements attributed to collagen supplements have proven to be pretty accurate. That’s why Absolute Collagen survived my supplements cull and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to give their collagen supplies a helping hand. You won’t be disappointed. Just delighted!
