Mood boosting tableware

As I’ve progressed through life, I’ve graduated from being a neutral devotee to a colour pop obsessive. This is probably a result of changing taste, but also a craving for happiness wherever I could find it. Colour is just uplifting and fun.  A few years ago, I waved goodbye to my pasty, white dinner service and welcomed its wildly colourful replacement. Without exaggeration, I admire it everyday with is cheerfulness being hard to ignore. A mood boosting indulgence I’m so pleased I allowed myself.

Colour psychology

Colour can genuinely affect our emotions and our perceptions. There’s a whole world of thought behind this, which I’ve only just dipped my toe into. Colour psychology is big business with a lot of attention being given to the interplay between different colours and emotions. Colours can evoke feelings of comfort, warmth, optimism, calm and happiness. While perceptions of colours are pretty subjective, some have acquired universal meaning. Red is generally associated with love and energy, yellow is linked to happiness and creativity hence the first ever post-it note was yellow, and orange is linked to joy. [1] So incorporating more colour into our life can have a positive impact on how we feel and act.

Colourful tableware

Even if you love a neutral home, colourful tableware can’t help but put a smile on your face.

While there are so many options to choose from, I fell in love with La DoubleJ’s  glorious porcelain offerings.   At a time when I was looking for a change, it offered fantasy in china combining bold, beautiful colours and patterns with metallic edges and Murano glass pieces. Super luxurious, but also super fun. An absolute dream which brightens the dreariest of mornings and elevates the everyday to another cheerful level. Despite all the frills, it’s also exceptionally robust. Ours is pretty much tossed in and out of the dishwasher without much thought, as is life in a family kitchen. Launched by JJ Martin in 2015 and produced in Italy, this range is highly addictive with a constant stream of new pieces becoming available which fit in with those you already have.  Just one look at their website and you are blasted with the positivity their porcelain transports directly into your home.

Plates that aren’t just for the cupboard!

I’ve been so uplifted by La DoubleJ’s quirky, bright designs, that theirs, and other beautiful plates, have made it onto my walls at home. Well, they’re so joyful it’s a shame to confine them to the cupboard! I’ve also discovered the easiest possible way to hang these on the wall. Gone are the days of having to find the right size of fiddly wire hanger! These  super strong invisible stickers are simply stuck onto the back of the plate, ready to be attached to your wall. The simplest way to bring a little colour pop of joy to any needy corner of your home.

It’s the little things that make a big difference

It’s surprising just how mood boosting it can be to change something as small as the plates you use (and hang on your walls) and the mugs you drink from daily. These happy effects certainly aren’t confined to La DoubleJ’s porcelain. It’s simply the uplifting and distracting effect of introducing more colour into your life which brings La Dolce Vita to your everyday.
