Skin Care Supplements

The World of supplements is as confusing and saturated as the world of skincare. It wasn’t until the start of this year that I received a text from my friend asking which collagen supplements I took. The answer was none! I was aware of collagen, but hadn’t thought to try it. I was already taking Lumity night and day supplements and that is a commitment to eight soft gels a day!  Shortly afterwards, during a hydra facial, the facialist suggested I try omegas to deal with my breakouts which were driving me mad. I was truly sick of teenage acne on a 40 something year old face! I was so totally unaware of the concept of supplements as a form of skincare, when omegas were mentioned, I didn’t know what they were. I thought it was a case of popping to Boots and picking up some fish oils. Apparently not!  Also, collagen supplements were part of the offer so I thought it was worth a go. I was sold Advanced Nutrition’s Skin Collagen Support and their Skin Omegas+ and I haven’t looked back.

Advanced Nutrition’s Skin Collagen Support

Collagen is a type of protein which, amongst others, provides support, strength and structure for your skin. The Collagen Support promised to activate my skin’s collagen revealing a younger, supple looking skin, while also plumping and smoothing. Win, win, win! All you have to do is take two capsules a day with food. My facialist did strongly recommend that these were not taken with your morning tea or coffee as you would soon be flushing your collagen down the loo, not absorbing all its goodness!  Easy to take, and no yuck tasting drinks involved as I had feared at the mention of collagen supplements.

Skin Omegas+

The omegas promised to nourish my skin, providing total skin hydration resulting in a luminous glow. Again, what was not to love. Each softgel contains evening primrose oil, vitamin A and fish oil.  Similarly to the collagen support, two softgels are to be taken with a meal. Not one to rigidly follow the rules, but it is best to take these with some food in order to avoid any aftertaste.

The Results

As I already mentioned, my skin has been problematic for quite a while and my continual breakouts had been sufficient for my GP to prescribe a long-term low dose antibiotic. My last prescription came to an end in December and I started taking these supplements in January, just as my skin was showing signs of flaring up again. I wanted to give the omegas a chance to work their magic in place of the antibiotic. I’m now four months in and I haven’t had any significant breakouts. Quite incredible. Also, my skin which is usually particularly dry in the winter, has not been anywhere near its flaky-self. Hydrated and plump in fact.

I have to say these supplements have worked wonders for me. They’re so easy to take and have made such a difference. The problem is re-ordering them. The Advanced Nutrition website is a like a wonderland of supplements for every conceivable skin goal, it’s hard to limit my basket to just these. But I’m not actually shopping, this duo have more than delivered! If they worked for me, and you have any of the skin issues I’ve mentioned, I can’t recommend these more highly.
