Assouline’s Ticket to Travel from Home

Similarly to the perfume we wear, home fragrances also influence and elevate our mood.  This possibly explains my mild obsession with scented candles and diffusers, beyond sharing my home with three labradoodles!

We’ve long sought to capitalise on scent’s ability to promote relaxation, relieve pain and improve our mood; aromatherapy dates back to 3500 years BC! Recently, however, mental well-being through scent has been increasingly  on trend. Even Kris Jenner’s cleaning company Safely plays on the links between scent and emotional wellbeing. French publisher Assouline, are  however going one step further and embracing the novel concept of travel from home through scent transportation. I had to give this a shot, especially with the UK weather being as it is.

Scent transportation

Assouline’s beautiful and aspirational travel books grace many a well-appointed coffee table, and now there’s a range of candles to accompany some of their most popular destinations. Famous perfumer Jérôme Epinette, also trusted by Victoria Beckham to create her fragrances, has encapsulated the essence of these luxurious locations in each candle and, as one would expect from Assouline, they are a chic addition to any interior. Each is adorned with a silkscreen print reflecting the colours and symbols of their iconic books. Intrigued by all of this, and unable to settle on a destination, I tried the Travel from Home Mini Scented Candle Set.

The set promised to capture the enveloping warmth of Gstaad, the fresh notes of Ibiza and the spicy fragrance of Mykonos. Wonderful! Having never been to any of these places, it was exciting to sample these. The Gstaad Glam was my favourite with its clever icy notes and undertones of Christmas trees and wood fires burning. Beautiful! It took me straight to the mountains. However, being absolutely honest, I found it difficult to relate to the scents of Ibiza and Mykonos, having never visited either. Whilst they are heavenly scented, I was missing a hook to hang those scents on. I’d therefore recommend, to get the full benefit of the concept and the transportive effects, you should opt for a candle of somewhere you’ve been to. The mountains have reasonably familiar scents, so the Gstaad Glam was the most effective for me, from a travel from home perspective

The Result

These are lovely candles of a particularly high quality. Despite trying the mini versions, they still filled the house with their beautiful aromas. My inability to relate to the scents of Ibiza and Myknos doesn’t detract from the fact that these are wonderfully scented, super innovative and fantastically chic candles that all lovers of home scents will adore. A real delight to brighten your day and your home. If you opt for a full-size candle destination you have visited, I’m certain you’ll be transported there in a flash, if the Gstaad Glam candle is anything to go by. Worth trying if you’re in need of a little sensory adventure and a beautifully fragranced home!
