About
This is my guide to loving the journey no matter what’s thrown your way.
My Life Detour is a place to share what brightens my day as a one-time lawyer, turned endorphin-chasing, glow-seeking, pretty-thing-loving, mum of boys. Having grown up being reminded it’s better to travel than to arrive, I will pass on tips, recommendations and experiences to elevate your everyday and to tackle some of life’s little problems.

My Detour
Life, as we all know, has no road map, which I have slowly come to realise is no bad thing. Having completed my PhD and delivered my first child two weeks later, I could not have predicted how the next several years would go. I had no idea the fear I would have of leaving my much longed-for baby, which would leave my career in the rear-view mirror. Only now, 8 years later, I’ve reached the point where I would love to reclaim a little bit of me.
I’m also quite delighted that in my thirties I had no idea what was just around the corner. The challenges of mid-life were dealt to me sooner than I expected. I’ve been exceptionally fortunate to experience the highest highs which life can offer, but I’ve also become familiar with the lowest lows. These are more challenging to navigate your way through and for which a road map would be much appreciated! Having experienced a parent with cancer, enduring the long good bye presented by dementia and suffering the loss of my younger brother in the middle of it, have changed me.
My losses have pushed me to connect with all of the wonderful things that life has to offer and to share my experiences with you here. To highlight that no matter what life throws your way, everything passes and there is hope and happiness to be found in each day. You have to allow the little things to lift you and bring you joy.
